Shows

Formed in 1999 under the artistic direction of Hilary Roberts (now emeritus), the ensemble consists of about thirty dancers and singers, as well as a cadre of talented musicians, all of whom are seasoned performers. The group was honored to participate in the San Francisco Ethnic Dance Festival in 2000 and 2001, quite a coup for such a young company. Jubilee performed the Dances from Cajun Country suite at the San Francisco Ethnic Dance Festival in June 2005, and its full repertoire at the Kaustinen Folk Music Festival in Finland in July 2005, to great critical acclaim (see photos below). Jubilee sold out performances of a full-length show Ramblin Roads: An Odyssey of Traditional American Dance and Music in May 2006 at the Dean Lesher Regional Center for the Arts in Walnut Creek, California. In July 2008, the group traveled to France to perform for ten days with other groups from around the world at the Festival de Gannat. In June 2009, Jubilee performed Squares and Clogging at the San Francisco Ethnic Dance Festival. In September 2009, Jubilee danced at the Sacramento World Music & Dance Festival. In September 2010, Jubilee toured in Russia and participated in the Moscow International Folklore Festival. In June 2011, Jubilee performed again at the San Francisco Ethnic Dance Festival. In December 2011, Jubilee performed in Palma Soriano, Cuba. In 2014, Jubilee returned to the San Francisco Ethnic Dance Festival and the Festival de Gannat in France, and in 2015 performed at International Folklife Festivals in Sumperk and Liptal, Czech Republic. .

Jubilee American Dance Theatre raised the roof at the 23rd San Francisco Ethnic Dance Festival ... Jubilee brought history to life." ~ The Piedmonter

The group is continually expanding its repertoire, and exploring the cultures from which America's social dances are derived. "'People have always learned and borrowed from each other.... It's an amalgam,' says Roberts. 'We're a melting pot.'" ~ Oakland Tribune
